New passport, renewal, or lost passport — the full process for Kenyan citizens applying through eCitizen, including documents, fees and what to expect.

Kenyan passports are applied for through the eCitizen portal, managed by the Department of Immigration Services. The process is entirely online until collection — you don't need to visit an immigration office to submit your application.
New passport: For first-time applicants who have never held a Kenyan passport.
Renewal: If your passport has expired, will expire within six months, or is full (no blank pages left). You must surrender the old passport when collecting the new one.
Lost or stolen passport: Requires a police abstract before applying. The fee is higher than a standard renewal.
East African Community passport: The maroon EA passport, usable for travel within EAC member states. Applied for separately on eCitizen.
For all applications: - Kenyan national ID (or birth certificate for minors aged 3–17) - Two identical passport-size photos (35mm × 45mm, white background, taken within the past three months) - For minors: both parents' IDs and a birth certificate; if only one parent is applying, a court order or affidavit may be required
For renewals: your current/expired passport.
For lost passports: police abstract from the station nearest to where the loss occurred.
1. Log in at ecitizen.go.ke → Immigration → Passport Application 2. Fill in the application form — personal details, travel history, emergency contacts 3. Upload your passport photo and any required supporting documents 4. Pay via M-Pesa or card 5. Select your collection centre (Nyayo House Nairobi, regional immigration offices, or select service centres) 6. Submit and wait for an SMS when your passport is ready
Standard processing takes 10–15 working days. During peak travel seasons (August, December, March) allow extra time.
Bring your national ID and the application receipt (download from eCitizen after submission) to your selected collection centre. You cannot authorise someone else to collect your passport — collection is in person.
