NTSA driving licence renewals are fully online. Here's the exact process, what it costs, and how long it takes.

Kenya's driving licences are valid for three years. When yours expires, you renew it through NTSA's eCitizen portal — there's no need to visit an NTSA office for a straightforward renewal.
1. Log in to ecitizen.go.ke 2. Navigate to NTSA services 3. Select Driver's Licence → Renew Driving Licence 4. Your existing details will pre-populate from the NTSA database — verify they're correct 5. Upload a passport-size photo if required, or confirm that NTSA can use the photo on file 6. Select your licence classes (the vehicle categories you're licensed for) 7. Pay the renewal fee: KSh 3,050 for a standard private licence (fee varies by licence class) 8. An M-Pesa STK push will be initiated for payment 9. After payment, your renewal application is submitted 10. Collection is at the nearest NTSA office or the location you selected during application
Standard processing takes 5–10 working days. You'll receive an SMS notification when your licence is ready for collection. Bring your national ID to collect.
An expired driving licence is a traffic offence. If you're pulled over by a traffic officer, an expired licence can result in a fine or arrest. If your licence has been expired for more than six months, you may be required to retest — check with NTSA directly.
If you want to add new vehicle categories (e.g. adding Class B for motorcycles, or Class E for heavy commercial vehicles), this requires a fresh test at an NTSA-approved driving school and the appropriate application, not a simple renewal.
Report a lost licence at ecitizen.go.ke under NTSA → Driving Licence → Replace Lost/Damaged Licence. You'll need a police abstract.
For businesses managing a fleet and needing to track driver licence validity programmatically, Mycrea builds fleet management tools integrated with NTSA data.
